Young Voices

Thursday 27th February – Friday 28th February

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are really excited to announce that we have the opportunity to take 14 children from year 5 and 6 to join Young Voices ‘The largest school choir in the world’ at a performance at the Resorts World Arena, Birmingham, on Thursday 27th February 2025.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for some of our pupils to sing in a huge arena with thousands of other school children, with a live band and celebrity guests.

Due to the distance involved, this is a one-night residential trip, staying at ‘The Ackers Residential Centre,’ Birmingham.

This is a fantastic event and we have heard some incredibly positive feedback from other schools who have attended. To get a good idea of what it involves please look at www.youngvoices.co.uk

Here is a rough outline of the proposed itinerary.

Thursday 27th February 2025

Approx 6.45 am (actual departure time to be confirmed nearer the time)   Meet staff & minibus at Teignmouth Primary School. Travel in minibus to The Ackers Residential Centre

12.00 pm       Travel to World Resorts Arena, Birmingham.  Afternoon rehearsal

5.00 pm        Tea break in the arena – pupils to have brought a packed tea and drinks

6.00 pm        Arena opens to audience

7.00 pm        Show starts

9.00 pm        Show ends.  Back to The Ackers Residential Centre, to stay the night

Friday 28th February 2025

7.30 am        Rise and shine! (and breakfast!)

9.00 am        Leave Ackers, Birmingham – snack stop during the journey

Approx 1.00 pm (actual return time to be confirmed nearer the time and whilst we are travelling)

Arrive back at Teignmouth Primary School where children can be collected to go home early.

We expect there to be a high level of interest in this trip and places are unfortunately restricted to the 14 minibus seats for the children.  There is a lot of material to learn off by heart for this show: approx. 20 songs.  Although we will have weekly rehearsals, specifically for this event, a lot of the preparation work

will involve the children accessing online resources to learn the songs, words and moves at home, on their own, starting this term! This will be alongside a weekly club run from October through to the show in February on a Thursday.

For pupils to be considered for this opportunity, they must be a really keen singer, become a member of the club when it starts, with commitment to learning words and performing at the show.  We are very aware that many of you will also be paying for Grenville House residential, so please don’t feel under pressure to also commit to this trip – it really is just a special opportunity for children who enjoy singing and performing.  Pupils must also have permission to be photographed/videoed by the Young Voices Team at the performance.

The cost of this trip is £40.00, to include registration and participation in the event, transport costs, accommodation, lunch on Thursday and breakfast on the Friday.  This amount is being subsided by the school.  We would need a £20 deposit paid to secure your child’s place by Monday 30th September.  The remaining £20 will need to be paid by Monday 2nd December.

Normally, lots of the children participating purchase special Young Voices T shirts for approx. £15. I will inform and invite you to order these T shirts once places have been allocated but the children are allowed to instead wear a PLAIN white T shirt/school shirt instead anyway (this is what the staff will be wearing!) so this is an optional extra charge which can be avoided.

If you would like your child to have the chance of a place on this trip, please return the slip below BY THE DEADLINE OF MONDAY 30th SEPTEMBER.  PLEASE CAN YOU COMPLETE THE PERMISSION SLIP AND PAY THE DEPOSIT ON SCHOOL MONEY.  If, at the close of the school day on Monday 30th September, more than 14 children have returned their slips of interest, we will unfortunately need to ‘pull names out of a hat’ to allocate the 14 places fairly. A further letter will then inform children whether they have been successful in gaining a place on the trip or not (and children unsuccessful in selection will be placed on a reserve list).  We are excited to offer this opportunity and are looking forward to working with the children on the songs.

Yours sincerely,

Miss Sowden
