What is Early Help?
At Teignmouth Primary School, we know that being a parent is one of the most important and sometimes most challenging jobs there is. Families can face all sorts of ups and downs and sometimes a little extra support can make a big difference.
Early Help is the name we give to the support available for children, young people, and their families when things start to feel difficult. Itโs about offering help as soon as a problem starts to show, rather than waiting until things get worse.
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง How does it work?
You can ask for help at any time by speaking to a teacher, our pastoral team or another trusted adult in school. Together, we will listen and work with you to understand whatโs going well and where extra support might be helpful. If needed, we can complete an Early Help Assessment (EHA). This is a simple form that helps us and you see the bigger picture. It is not about blaming or judging, but about finding solutions together. With your permission, we may bring together the right people (for example health, housing, or support workers) to create a plan that works best for your family.
๐ก What sort of things can Early Help support with?
- Routines, behaviour, or school attendance
- Mental health and wellbeing
- Parenting advice and guidance
- Money worries, food, or housing
- Relationship breakdown or family conflict
- Support for children with additional needs
- Confidence, courses, and employment
โ Why Early Help?
- Itโs voluntary โ you choose to be involved.
- Itโs supportive, not judgmental, we want to help, not criticise!
- Itโs about making sure children are safe, happy and able to learn.
- It often prevents small issues becoming bigger problems.
๐ If you feel your family would benefit from more structured support, please talk to your childโs teacher or a member of the pastoral team about an Early Help Assessment. This is not about telling you what to do, itโs about listening and working with you to get the right support at the right time.
