Nursery

Welcome to Nursery

Did you know that all children learn more in the period from birth to five-years-old than any other time in their lives? (Development Matters 2020)

Toddlers are curious and energetic explorers, motivated to learn through play, talking, stories, sensory play and many more other experiences. At Teignmouth Primary School Nursery, we welcome toddlers aged 2-4 years. We have two rooms within our nursery: one for children aged 2-3 and one for children aged 3-4.

Our nursery team is lead by fully qualified teachers and consists of experienced and highly qualified staff. Not only is the team extremely knowledgeable and skilled, they also pride themselves on building strong relationships with the children, leaving parents and carers secure in the knowledge that their children are safe and happy.

About us

We are a nursery linked to the primary phase of Teignmouth Primary School located at the top of Mill Lane, led by fully qualified teachers.

The nursery has two rooms and ample outdoor environments to explore.

We take children from age 2 upwards, and we welcome them to start at any point during the term time.

We follow the children’s interests and from this plan around a story each week; this means that the children get to listen to lots of exciting stories and have plenty of opportunities to play and explore their  environment through choosing their own learning.

Parent Review:
‘When Oliver started, he was first a little nervous but now I’ve never seen him so excited each morning to go to nursery. The nursery itself is lovely and really well laid out. All the teachers are lovely and helpful and Oliver comes home with something new everyday. Thank you for everything you have done.’

Meet the Team

A warm welcome awaits from all of the nursery team.

At Teignmouth Primary School Nursery, we strive to work closely with each child’s family to ensure that we are working together to support every child’s learning journey. We appreciate that nursery is a new experience for both children and parents, and we are keen to help you feel comfortable joining our nursery family, and to feel supported as parents.  The nursery team will always do their best to make time to speak with you at the start or end of the day regarding any concerns or worries you may have; please do come and talk to us. If we cannot address an issue straight away, we will arrange a time when we can discuss things in greater depth with you. If your home or family are going through a difficult time, or change in circumstances, please do let us know. It will remain confidential  and enables us to be aware of any additional emotional support your child may need, and to be more sensitive and understanding of any behavioural changes.

What will children do during their school day?

Your child will take part in a wide range of activities, both indoors and outdoors.  Your child will learn through activities he or she has chosen, or from those that are led by an adult. They will develop their ability to concentrate in small guided group activities, in which they will learn and practise their early phonics, reading, writing and maths skills as well as developing their physical, communication and social skills.  Children in nursery learn through play-based activities that are fun and enjoyable.  These activities are supported by caring adults who will work closely with you to ensure your child makes progress.  We create an online learning journey for each child to monitor their progress and celebrate their achievements. This record is directly linked to the Development Matters in the Foundation Stage Guidance.  Parents are actively encouraged to contribute to their child’s Seesaw learning journey by uploading photos and adding comments as well as  sharing of their child’s learning steps and achievements at home.

What will your child need for school each day?

Your child will need the following things in school every day. Please support them in organising their belongings by ensuring everything is clearly named, and checking periodically in case names have worn off!

  • A water bottle
  • A bag with spare clothes, wipes, nappies, nappy bags.
  • A coat
  • A bag with waterproof coat/trousers or all-in-one suit and wellington boots.
  • Lunch box – if your child is having a packed lunch

Family Support

We strive to work closely with each child’s family to ensure that we are working together to support every child’s learning journey.   The nursery team will always do their best to make time to speak with you at the start or end of the school day regarding any concerns or worries you may have; please do come and talk to us. If we cannot address an issue straight away we will arrange a time when we can discuss things in greater depth with you. If your home or family are going through a difficult time, or change in circumstances, please do let us know, as it enables us to be aware of any additional emotional support your child

Seesaw

You can keep up to date with your child’s learning through the Seesaw app which allows us to include parents and carers in the learning process. It is a great way for us to communicate between home and school and for us to share photos and observations of what your child has been up to during their time at nursery. We very much encourage you to upload photos and engage with the learning that your child has been up to, as it is important for parents and carers and early years settings to have a strong and respectful partnership in order for children to thrive!

The following links may provide you with some useful information prior to your child starting nursery. If you don’t find the support you need, please do come and speak with us and we will endeavour to help.
