Dear Parents and Carers,
This year, World Book Day takes place on Thursday 3rd March and we would like to invite you to join us in helping your child to make the most of this special occasion. This year, it is the 25th anniversary of World Book Day and the theme is ‘every child a reader’ which is something as a school, we feel very passionately about.
World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children so every child receives a £1 World Book Day Book Token that can either be exchanged for one of the special £1 World Book Day books or used to get £1 off any book costing £2.99 or more. You can find out more about the books at worldbookday.com/books.
This year, we would like to invite children to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. You can find lots of creative ideas at worldbookday.com/dressing-up-ideas.
There will be activities organised in their class and around school to celebrate books and reading along with a Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) session; therefore, children are also invited to bring in their favourite book from home to read and perhaps share.
Finally, we are holding a school-wide competition for the best ‘book in a box’. To enter, your child will need to turn an ordinary cardboard box, of any size, into a scene from a book in any way they would like to. They should bring their entry in, named clearly, to their teachers on World Book Day. During the day, we will judge all the entries and there will be a prize for the winner from each key stage.
We look forward to seeing what they come up with!
Kind regards,
Mrs Dudley
