Dear Parents and Carers,
All children in year one across the country take part in a phonics screening check during June. However, due to COVID 19 your child’s phonics
screening check was cancelled.
In the 2020/21 academic year only, it is statutory for schools to administer a past version of the phonics screening check to year 2 pupils during the second half of the 2020 autumn term and return results to the LA. Please read our guide to Phonics screening by clicking here.
The phonics screening check is designed to give teachers and parents information on how your child is progressing in phonics. It will help to identify whether they need additional support at this stage so that they do not fall behind in this vital early reading skill. The test format is very similar to part of their learning in Read Write Inc. and therefore something they are very familiar with.
If you wish to find out more about the check, please feel free to email gemma.sandercock@teignmouthschool.co.uk or rebecca.emery@teignmouthschool.co.uk .
Yours sincerely
Gemma Sandercock
