Year 6 Swimming

Home Forms Year 6 Swimming

Dear parent/carer,

As you know, your child will be going swimming every day during the week of 26th – 30th June.

All Year 6 children will be doing this as part of their PE curriculum.

There is no cost for the lessons.

They will be swimming at Teignmouth Lido and will be walking there and back. They will be having lessons from qualified instructors whilst there. This will all take place during normal school hours; please bring your child to school and collect them at the normal times.

The children will be split into 2 groups of roughly 23. Each of these groups will then be split into 3 smaller groups, according to swimming ability, for the actual lessons. The lessons will last for 45 minutes.

All of the children will walk down and back to school together. They will leave at about 10:40 and will arrive in plenty of time for the first session, which is at 11:30 – 12:15.

One group of 23 children will swim first; the other group will be supervised by their teacher and TA whilst undertaking some activities at the poolside and also eating their lunch. The second group will swim, change and then be supervised whilst doing these same activities.

The second group will swim from 12:15 – 1:00.

When the second group of swimmers have changed, all of the children will walk back together.

They should arrive back at school for about 2:00.

Please make sure that your child has a packed lunch and plenty of water with them. If your child receives free school meals then a free school packed lunch will be provided; please send them with a water bottle.

The children will need to wear school uniform but dress for the weather. This may mean shorts, sunhats and sun cream or it may mean raincoats and jumpers! The children may wear trainers for this week so that the walk to and from the pool is more comfortable

Obviously, they will need swimming costumes, towels, goggles if required, their lunch and water, a snack for after swimming (optional) and a sensible bag to carry this all in – rucksacks are recommended.

Please fill in and return the slip link below to indicate that you give permission for your child to take part and to give us a rough idea of their swimming ability.

If you have any questions, please ask your child’s teacher, myself or the school office.

Many thanks,

Jonathan Ball
